Who should attend: Couples contemplating remarriage where one or both are either:
-Divorced
-Widow/widower
-Have children from a prior relationship
Seminar Agenda:
The program involves extensive participant interaction using a variety of learning formats:
- Developing a Family Mission Statement
- The three critical 'right conditions' for second marriage:
- Genuineness
- Empathy
- Non-possessive warmth
- The necessary skill of conflict resolution (a specific model is taught and couples practice using it on an issue relevant to them.)
- Small group discussions on second marriage issues:
- Parenting and step-parenting
- Blending families
- Financial concerns
- Relating the "ex's" - spouse, in-laws
- Balancing the need for independence with family responsibilities
- Readiness to marry again
- Intimacy
- Christian spirituality:
- Your personal relationship with God
- Marriage as a sacrament
- Where is God in our relationship

About the Facilitators
Mary Del Vecchio, Psy D., CRC, LPC, Pastoral Minister
Stephen M. Del Vecchio, M.A., J.D.
Over the past 20 years, Mary and Steve have helped over 6,000 engaged and married couples build the interpersonal skills necessary for the lifelong commitment of marriage.
On a more personal note, both Steve and Mary are on second marriages. The painful lessons they've both learned add a special degree of understanding and compassion to their work.
Mary has a Doctorate in Psychology, received her M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Wisconsin, Stout and her M.A. in Theology from the College of St. Catherine. In 2001, she received the Mary Muehen Award for Pastoral Excellence. Mary is on the Adjunct Faculty at the College of St. Catherine. Steve has graduate degrees in Human Resources and Law. He has over 30 years experience in teaching, mediation, consulting and writing.
Mary and Steve are both Oblates at the St. Paul's Monastery. They enjoy Cana dinner speaking and work with the Diocese of New Ulm preparing couples for remarriage.
