Please join us for a weekend set aside exclusively for engaged couples.  Our program provides you with a highly interactive learning experience, helping you build on the strengths of your relationship as well as learning (and practicing) a new approach to resolving differences.  In addition, you will discover some new insights into yourself and your fiancé.

About the Facilitators

Mary Del Vecchio, Psy D., CRC, LPC, Pastoral Minister
Stephen M. Del Vecchio, M.A., J.D.

Over the past 20 years, Mary and Steve have helped over 6,000 engaged and married couples build the interpersonal skills necessary for the lifelong commitment of marriage.

On a more personal note, both Steve and Mary are on second marriages.  The painful lessons they've both learned adds a special degree of commitment, understanding and compassion to their work.

Mary and Steve are both oblates at the St. Paul's Monastery.  Mary is on the Adjunct Faculty at the College of St. Catherine.  She has a Doctorate in Psychology, an M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Wisconsin, Stout, M.A. in Theology from the College of St. Catherine, and a Pastoral Minister Certificate.  Steve has graduate degrees in Human Resources and Law.  He has over 30 years experience in teaching, mediation, consulting and writing.

• Developing a Family Mission Statement
• Three critical "right conditions" for successful marriage:
  • Genuineness
  • Empathy
  • Warmth
• Two necessary skill sets:
  • Communication
  • Conflict Resolution
    (a specific model is taught)
• Natural Family Planning
• Group discussion with a local priest on the spirituality of marriage, e.g.:
  • Marriage as a Sacrament
  • The Vows of Matrimony
  • Intimacy and Sexuality
• The program involves extensive participant interaction using a variety of learning tools:
  • Three self assessment instruments
  • Three instruments designed to provide behavioral feedback from your partner
  • Four one-on-one discussion sessions
  • Large group debriefs and brainstorming sessions
  • Couples practice an issue resolution model using an issue relevant to them
