River Falls Medical Clinic
To help us learn more about the River Falls Medical Clinic and what it's like to be a doctor, Samantha Bluhm arranged an interview with Dr. Goblirsch at the clinic. Dr. Goblirsch sat down with us for an interview and then showed us some of the tools that he uses in his job.

1) Why are some of the tools doctors use most?
Dr. Goblirsch took us into an exam room and showed us lots of tools that are used, from the good old tongue depressor to a sphygmomanometer. Do you know that that is? (There's one at the bottom of the page - for measuring blood pressure.)

2) Do you like giving people shots?
Most of the time I don't give shots. I have helpers - nurses and medical assistants - that do that. But we don't mind giving people shots.

3) How many x-rays do you give people?
It depends on what people come in for. Usually it might be 3 or 4 times a day.

4) Do you ever do surgery?
I do "little" surgeries, like removing a mole.

5) Do you like to be a doctor, and what do you like best?
I like being a doctor. I enjoy taking care of families and watching people grow from birth to when they become an adult.

6) What are the hardest and easiest parts of your job?
The easiest part is getting up to go to work because I enjoy my job. The hardest part is when I need to stay at the clinic for a long time. Sometimes I need to stay until night time.

7) How long did you need to go to school? Did you enjoy it?
If you include gradeschool, it was a total of 21 years of school plus three years after that of training before I could get a job as a doctor! Did I enjoy it? It was ok.

8) How many doctors and nurses are there in the clinic?
Altogether, we have 18 doctors, 6 nurses, and 21 medical assistants.

9) How busy are you? How many patients do you see in a day?
Some days I might see 15 people, but others maybe as many as 30 in a day!

10) What kind of technology do you use?
We use computers, x-rays (which are now on computer, too), and our brains. A lot of what we do doesn't require a lot of technology, but we just need to ask the right questions to find out what the problem is.

11) Why did you choose to live in River Falls?
He didn't know much about River Falls before moving here, but liked the fact that the clinic and the hospital are right next to each other. He likes the people here and also likes being so close to the Twin Cities.
