  > Setting Up Authenticated Email For Eudora  5

These instructions will walk you through the steps needed to re-configure Eudora 5 to be compatible with dial-up access in La Crosse, Eau Claire or any other PressEnter National Dial-Up numbers. If you haven't configured Eudora 5, please follow these instructions first or call the helpdesk for assistance.

If you're not sure which version of Eudora you have, you can check by going to the help menu and choosing "About Eudora".

Before you begin, please make sure you have exited Eudora. You'll need to navigate to the installation directory for Eudora. This is usually C:\Program Files\Eudora, C:\Program Files\Qualcomm\Eudora or C:\Program Files\Internet\Eudora, but may be different depending on what you specified when you installed Eudora.

Start by double clicking on "My Computer". Then double click on the hard drive you use (usually C:). Within your hard drive, navigate to the Eudora folder and you should see the files below. Double click on the folder marked "extra stuff".

Within this folder, you should see a file named esoteric.epi (or just esoteric). Click once on that file to highlight it.

Next, click on the edit menu and choose copy.

You'll need to navigate back to the Eudora folder. If you see a back button within this window, click on that. Otherwise, close the extra stuff folder by clicking the "X" in the upper right corner. Then click on the edit menu and select paste.

Next, close out of any windows you have open and open Eudora just as you would when you go to check mail.

Within Eudora, click on the tools menu and select options.

When the "Getting Started" tab is selected at the left, you should see the screen below.  Check the "Allow authentication" box.

Next, scroll to the bottom of the categories on the left and choose the "Ports" category to bring up the screen below. Enter the number 587 in the "SMTP Port (25)" field and click OK. If you do not see Ports, the esoteric.epi file was not correctly moved. Please call the helpdesk and one of our techncians can assist you.

To make sure everything works, try sending a test email to your own email address. If you have any problems, call our helpdesk or start over at the beginning of this walkthrough.
